Mexican authorities have extradited 29 drug lords to the United States, facing threats of a 25% tariff, convicted of drug cartels, murders, and other crimes, Reuters reported.
In particular, Rafael Caro Quintero, one of the founders of the Guadalajara cartel, who was involved in drug trafficking in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s and had been wanted since 1985 for allegedly killing a US Drug Enforcement Administration agent, was extradited to the United States.
Mexico also extradited Martin Sotelo, suspected of involvement in the 2022 murder of Charlotte Deputy Sheriff Ned Byrd, and Antonio Cervantes, the leader of the so-called new generation Jalisco cartel. US Attorney General Pam Bondi has promised that members of the cartels will be prosecuted “to the full extent of the law.” According to her, US President Trump “has understood that the cartels are terrorist groups,” so the Justice Department intends to “destroy” them.
