The prestigious international organization Freedom House has published the “Freedom in the World – 2025” report entitled “The Hard Fight for Rights”.
The report presents the situation in 195 countries and 13 territories. 85 countries and 1 territory are considered free, 51 countries and 4 territories are partly free, and 59 countries and 8 territories are not free.
According to Freedom House, only Armenia and Georgia are classified as partly free in the region. Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran are included in the “not free” group of countries.
In the case of Armenia, the total score has not changed compared to the previous year, at 54. In the case of Georgia, the country has worsened its position by three points and now has 55 points instead of the 58 recorded in the previous year’s report. Among Armenia and neighboring countries, Georgia is the only country with decreased scores compared to last year. Turkey has 33 points, Russia 12, Iran 11, and Azerbaijan 7. Apart from Russia, whose score dropped by one point compared to the previous report, the scores of the remaining three countries – Turkey, Iran, and Azerbaijan – remained unchanged.
Of the post-Soviet countries, except the three Baltic republics, which enjoy a “free” rating, Ukraine and Moldova are also “partly free.” The remaining post-Soviet countries are “not free.”
The organization said that separate reports on the countries will be published shortly.
