Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has told The Guardian that if Donald Trump cuts off US support for Ukraine, Europe alone will be unable to fill the gap.
“Security guarantees without America’s participation are not real security guarantees,” he added.
Zelensky said he was ready to negotiate but wanted Ukraine to negotiate “from a position of strength.” He said that if Trump manages to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table, they intend to offer a direct exchange of territory, including part of the Kursk region with territory occupied by Russia.
Ukraine has the largest reserves of uranium and titanium in Europe, he said, and “it is not in the interests of the United States” to see these reserves fall into Russian hands and potentially be shared with North Korea, China, or Iran.
“We are not going to complain that some programs have been suspended because the most important thing for us is military aid, which has been preserved, for which I am grateful. Suppose the American side has the opportunity and desire to continue its humanitarian mission. In that case, we are all in favor, and if not, then we will have to find a way out of this situation,” Zelensky said.
