Eleven people have been killed in a shooting at an adult education center in Sweden, police said. It was the deadliest mass shooting in Sweden’s history, and the country’s prime minister called it a “painful day.”
Police said the suspected shooter was among the dead. Searches are ongoing for other possible victims. The incident took place at a school in the city of Örebro.
The motive for the attack is still unknown.
A statement on the police website said: “There are currently 11 confirmed deaths. The number of injured is still unknown. We do not have any information on their condition at this time.”
Initial reports suggest the shooter acted alone. The suspect was not previously known to police.
