US President Donald Trump has proposed that the Gaza Strip be under US control, where Palestinian resettlement projects would be implemented. Trump also said that the US is ready to send troops to implement this program, writes Reuters.
He made this statement during talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. During the meeting, they also discussed the fragile ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the issue of a hostage exchange, and concerns about Iran.
Trump said that the US could take control of Gaza to implement development projects there and create thousands of jobs.
“We will do what is necessary. We will send troops, take control, develop that area, and create thousands of jobs if necessary. It will become something that the entire Middle East will be proud of,” Trump said.
The United States has supported a two-state solution for decades, which would see a Palestinian state in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip alongside Israel. However, Trump has not made it clear whether he supports that solution.
“It doesn’t mean a two-state solution or a one-state solution. It means we want to give people a chance at life because Gaza has become a hellish place for those who live there,” he said.
Trump also stressed that Gaza could be home to people from all over the world, including Palestinians.
“I imagine there will be people from all over the world living there. Palestinians will be there; many people will be there,” he said, without elaborating.
