Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmitry Lytvyn has rejected a proposal by US special envoy Keith Kellogg to hold elections in the country. Washington has been urged in Kyiv to take a “deeper approach.”
On Sunday, a Ukrainian official wrote on the X social network, referring to Kellogg’s interview with Reuters, “We have not seen the full interview of Mr. Kellogg, only a few quotes about the elections, so it is difficult to assess his position thoroughly. However, if his plan is limited to a ceasefire and elections, it is a failure. Putin will not be intimidated by these two things. Moscow continues to increase the production of missiles and ammunition, find new ways to circumvent sanctions, and earn income from oil. These weapons are not being created to respect democratic neighbors. The military alliance between Russia and North Korea also does not contribute to maintaining a ceasefire.
That is why we would prefer to see more from the officials of the leading partners. “At the same time, we recall that President Trump, during his meetings with President Zelensky, deeply and intelligently analyzed the situation and noted what could put pressure on Putin. That is why it is important to quickly move on to work on a concrete plan between the teams to end the war and ensure a lasting peace.”
