Armenia attaches great importance to the centuries-old ties and deepening of comprehensive cooperation with friendly Iran. In this context, friendly groups play a unique role as a bridge of mutual understanding and mutual trust.
Narek Babayan, head of the RA NA Armenia-Iran friendship group, stated this while hosting the delegation of the Iran-Armenia friendship group of the IRI Mejlis in the parliament on January 13.
The head of the friendly group spoke in detail about the need for bilateral economic cooperation and the implementation of several sectoral programs. In this context, Narek Babayan emphasized the regional peace factor and noted that Armenia highly appreciates Iran’s approach.
“Unblocking the economic infrastructure in the region is one of our government’s priorities. Our views on this matter are summarized in the Crossroads of Peace project, to which Iran has given its positive conclusion. We believe that Iran should also play a key role in the implementation of this project,” the leader of the friendly group stated.
In the context of relations with neighboring countries, Narek Babayan discussed the details of the process of normalizing relations with Azerbaijan, emphasizing, “Aware that regional peace implies collective responsibility, Armenia has assumed its share of responsibility in that process and expects the participation of other actors in the region.”
Ara Shahverdyan, head of the Mejlis Iran-Armenia friendship group, also emphasized the deepening of cooperation in the parliamentary format and the importance of mutual visits in promoting the bilateral agenda.
“Armenia has its place and position in our foreign policy. We value cooperation with neighboring countries. We have a great cultural past, and there are deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries and peoples,” said Iran-Armenia, the head of the friendly group of Armenians.
Vagharshak Hakobyan, Shirak Torosyan, Gurgen Melkonyan, Mariam Poghosyan, Gegham Nazaryan, Davit Danielyan, Irina Gasparyan, Christine Vardanyan, and Gegham Manukyan also participated in the meeting with the parliamentary delegation of the IRI Mejlis.
The parties discussed issues related to the increase in trade turnover and cargo transportation. They expressed hope that the RA-IRI economic benchmark could be increased to 3 billion US dollars.
The Armenian and Iranian MPs expressed their belief that they will continue their efforts to develop and strengthen bilateral relations.
