The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, officially assumed her second presidential term after being re-elected in the November national elections. The swearing-in ceremony occurred in the Republican Palace of Chisinau, where about 500 guests were present.
“I assume this mandate with humility and determination,” declared Maia Sandu.
She vowed to invest his strength and knowledge in Moldova’s prosperity, preserve its constitution and laws, protect democracy, fundamental human rights and freedoms, and preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In her speech, Sandu admitted that four years ago, at the beginning of her first term, she had promised to significantly improve the lives of Moldovans. Still, the crises that have hit the country, from the pandemic to the ongoing war in Ukraine, have prevented realizing these goals.
“We witnessed tragedies and cruel acts that seem impossible in the modern world. In these difficult conditions, we remained united, preserved peace, and protected democracy from external threats. I thank you for your patriotism, courage, unity, and generosity. We can be proud that, despite all the difficulties, we stand on the right side of history,” she said.
