The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia held the competition “Selecting the best of the year in the field of sports.” The winners were determined by combining the results of the voting of sports journalists accredited by the Sports Journalists Association.
Nineteen sports journalists participated in the voting, which carried out a closed, secret vote.
MESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan presented the results.
The best three athletes: Artur Aleksanyan, Artur Davtyan, Varazdat Lalayan,
The best female athlete: Alexandra Grigoryan,
The best athlete with a disability: Greta Vardanyan,
Best Team (Sports and Chess): Men’s National Chess Team,
The best young athlete: Emma Poghosyan,
Return to great sport and/or revelation: Hripsime Khurshudyan,
The athlete who best popularized the Republic of Armenia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan,
The best coach: Hakob Serobyan,
The winner in the audience sympathy category will be determined by online voting on the Telegram platform, which will end today at 5:00 p.m.
Summarizing the results, the Minister of Sport and Sports thanked the journalists for their participation and professional approach. The Minister emphasized that the results of the competition, held for the first time, allowed the determination of the best female athlete, the best team, the best coach, the best young athlete, and the best athlete with a disability. According to him, this will be an additional incentive for representatives of the sports world.
“The principle of fair competition in sports is important, so the fight goes according to results and sportsmanship. In addition, this allows us to value and encourage specific qualities. For example, the category “Return to great sport” also encourages important qualities, which is very important in sports: We also get an opportunity to make the process more participatory,” said Zhanna Andreasyan.
The commission members and the journalists who participated in the voting referred to the format of the competition and made certain observations and recommendations.
The purpose of the “Choice of the Best of the Year in the Field of Sports” competition is to encourage and honor Armenian athletes and coaches who have achieved achievements or significant successes in the current year, as well as who have contributed to the recognition and reputation of the Republic of Armenia and the popularization of state symbols and national values with their competitions.
