The UN General Assembly passed a resolution demanding an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the “immediate and unconditional” release of the hostages.
The UN General Assembly adopted a similar resolution a year ago, in which it also demanded an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in the enclave, as well as the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and provision of humanitarian access.”
The current resolution, the Gaza Ceasefire Demand, has been endorsed by 158 countries. 9 states were against it, and 13 more abstained. “The General Assembly demands all parties observe an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire and reaffirms its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” the document said. In addition, the UN General Assembly also demanded that the civilian population of the Gaza Strip be given immediate access to essential services and humanitarian aid that are “necessary for its survival.”
