EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski stated the words of the country’s Prime Minister Kobakhidze, which caused great dissatisfaction and demonstrations.
“As we heard yesterday, Georgia is no longer interested in joining the EU in the next four years. This is the sovereign decision of the Georgian government. It is extremely disappointing and sad,” the ambassador said.
According to Herczynski, it wasn’t very kind to him.
“What happened yesterday contradicts the policy of the previous government of Georgia, the policy of all previous governments of Georgia; it also contradicts the wishes of the vast majority of the population of Georgia.
Of course, Georgia is an independent, sovereign state, and it is unfortunate and offensive for Georgia to decide whether to follow the path of European integration. The Georgian people should choose how they want to see their country. My message will be like this: “We support the Georgian people, and we will wait for you. This is your country; you should decide where you want to see it,” said the EU ambassador.
