After a long delay, President-elect Donald Trump’s team has signed a key agreement with the White House for the transition period.
“President-elect Trump enters the next phase of his administration’s transition by signing a memorandum of understanding with President Joe Biden’s White House,” said Susie Wiles, the new White House chief of staff, in a statement.
“This partnership allows our presumptive Cabinet nominees to begin critical preparations, including the deployment of teams in each department and agency, and to complete the orderly transfer of power,” he emphasized.
The agreement with the White House, due to be signed on October 1, guarantees access to agencies and information and could lay the groundwork for the Trump team to obtain the clearances needed to access classified information.
Trump’s team also said it “will not use taxpayer funds to cover transition costs.”
He added that it “will not use government buildings or technology provided by the GSA (General Services Administration) and will operate as a “self-sufficient entity.”
