Israeli fans who arrived in Amsterdam to attend the match between the football clubs “Maccabi Tel Aviv” and “Ajax” were attacked in several parts of the city. Ynet writes about this.
Ynet claimed that videos shared on social media showed dozens of protesters, some masked and carrying Palestinian flags, punching and beating Israeli fans. Masked persons also tried to break into hotels. About 30 people were reportedly arrested, and local authorities reported dozens of injuries.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the events in Amsterdam. The Prime Minister’s Office said that Netanyahu ordered “to immediately send two rescue planes to help the citizens of Israel.” The National Security Council in Amsterdam advised Israelis to avoid going out and not to use Israeli symbols.
“The prime minister takes this terrible incident very seriously and demands that the Dutch government and Dutch security forces act decisively and quickly against the rioters and ensure the safety of our citizens,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.
