Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan referred to the new transport fare payment system that took effect on November 1. He said that they launched this system now to reveal possible irregularities and avoid facing the facts from January 1.
“The problems recorded today are a direction of work for us to make corrections,” said the mayor.
According to him, people only pay a few places. “We will use certain measures and methods here to understand why all this is being done properly.”
Avinyan says the unified ticket system has been implemented in Yerevan to provide quality public transport. “One should never go back to the logic that existed before.”
The mayor said that he met with the chairman of the central bank, Martin Galstyan, today and discussed the possibility of using bank cards in transport before the full implementation of the unified ticket system. Paying for transport with a bank card and terminals will be possible. My fare transport cards, which will be nominal, will also be issued soon. Different groups will use discount systems. “I am sure the unified ticket system will come into force on January 1.”
He also discussed public transport reforms and the European experience. According to him, the directions of reforms in European cities are the same: development of public transport, dedicated bus lanes, parking restrictions, price increases, and additions of bus lanes instead of parking spaces.
