“If we are a sovereign state and we have a chance to negotiate, we should negotiate without mediators,” said RA Deputy Prime Minister, Co-Chairman of the Border Affairs Committee Mher Grigoryan.
“If we bring a third country and set up an arbitration, I don’t know what conflict of interests will be. If we say dogmatically that the outcome of this country’s or this body’s resolution of the dispute is essential for both of us, I cannot sign such a thing. In today’s world, we can run into such risks that a decision is independent of us, which is binding for us, and I cannot answer why we should implement it.
At the same time, Grigoryan noted that they have an agreement with Azerbaijan to publish the documents related to the border demarcation commissions jointly. “Considering that the process is quite sensitive and complex in both countries, there is an agreement that the documents become public and synchronous,” Deputy Prime Minister Grigoryan said, commenting on why the Russian text of the regulation of border demarcation commissions is not published.
