From September 29 to November 25, the “second moon” will be visible in the sky through professional observation devices. This is reported from the Byurakan observatory.
The constellation (asteroid) 2024 PT5 was first discovered on August 7, 2024, by NASA’s Asteroid Earth Collision Warning System (ATLAS).
These days, the 2024 PT5 asteroid, about 10m in diameter and moving at a speed of 3,540 km/h, will come under the influence of the Earth’s gravitational field but will not make a complete revolution around the Earth.
Unlike our main companion, the Moon, which has been accompanying our planet for about 4 billion years, this “new little moon” will remain around the Earth for about two months before returning to its “home,” the Arjuna asteroid belt.
It will not be visible to the naked eye due to its small size and weak brightness.
