US President Joe Biden called the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut a “just measure,” the White House said in a statement.
“Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he leads, Hezbollah, are responsible for killing hundreds of Americans over four decades,” Biden said.
He explained that the strike that killed Nasrallah was carried out in the broader context of the conflict that began with the massacre of Hamas on October 7, 2023.
“Nasrallah made the fateful decision to align with Hamas and launch what he called a ‘northern front’ against Israel,” Biden said in a statement.
Biden stated that the United States “fully supports the right to defend ourselves against terrorist groups, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and any other terrorist groups supported by Iran.”
The President of the United Arab Emirates instructed the Secretary of Defense yesterday to strengthen the defense capability of the US forces in the Middle East to deter aggression and reduce the risk of a wider regional war.
“Ultimately, our goal is to defuse the ongoing conflicts in both Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means. In Gaza, we are seeking a ceasefire and the release of hostages with the support of the UN Security Council. In Lebanon, we are negotiating a deal that will allow people to return safely to their homes in Israel and southern Lebanon,” Biden said.
He concluded that now is the time to reach an agreement, eliminate threats to Israel, and ensure more excellent stability in the Middle East.
