RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament “on the need for closer ties between the EU and Armenia and the need for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia” at the start of the government session.
“Based on the 1991 Alma Ata Declaration, the resolution expresses unwavering support for Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, as well as for peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” said the Prime Minister.
According to him, the resolution quotes his statement made by the chair of the Council of Ministers in October of last year that RA is ready to be as close to the EU as the EU considers possible. “It was recorded that if RA wants to apply to become a candidate for EU membership, EU institutions should support it.”
Pashinyan welcomed the CE resolution and added, “I think it should become a subject of public discussion in RA. This is another occasion to discuss the vision of the future of RA, and I hope that RA political forces, non-governmental organizations, different layers of society, and citizens will express their attitude towards this message from the Council of Ministers because such messages need a much wider response than the government’s. Or the parliamentary majority”. He also emphasized. “I must express the will of the RA government to continue the work in the direction of further deepening and developing RA-EU relations.”
