Within the Antalya Diplomatic Forum framework, RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan interviewed Turkey’s “Anadolu” news agency. In it, he discussed the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations and the settlement process, among other issues.
According to Mirzoyan, the parties have specific problems, some of which have been agreed upon. Mirzoyan noted that the parties’ approaches to two critical issues are different. The first is the principle of determining the two countries’ borders, and the second is the unblocking of regional connections and transport hubs.
Noting that no one can draw new borders, Mirzoyan said that Yerevan wants Alma Ata’s 1991 declaration included in the draft peace agreement. He also stated that no positive response was received from Azerbaijan in this matter.
Mirzoyan also noted that the Armenian side is “ready to open transport routes along all the roads and junctions of the region.” He added that the Armenian side is against the involvement of third countries, which should ensure the safety of transport routes, life, and property passing through Armenia. He said that transport routes in the region “must be under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the country where they are located. The principles of reciprocity and equality are important. The process should be built with these approaches.”
Ararat Mirzoyan pointed out that the same principle of reciprocity and equality should apply to the transport routes passing through Azerbaijan. Baku should have the same powers regarding the roads passing there. However, Mirzoyan emphasized that the Azerbaijani side did not approve of that principle.
When asked whether the date of the next meeting was decided during the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Berlin, the capital of Germany, Mirzoyan answered that the date of the new meeting had not been decided, they are in constant contact and hope to decide on a new date for the meeting shortly.
