Hakob Vardanyan, RA Deputy Minister of Economic and Technological Development, received the delegation headed by Jonas Survila, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy presented the current situation in the field of electricity in Armenia, the areas of cooperation with partner states, particularly neighboring Georgia and Iran, and noted that our goal is to conduct a balanced policy in the field of electricity.
During the meeting, Hakob Vardanyan spoke about the impressive pace of solar energy development in Armenia. In turn, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania noted that the transition to solar energy is a priority for the European Union and the EU and can be helpful in Armenia in this matter.
Jonas Survila also inquired about the current situation in atomic energy. The Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that Armenia will probably have a decision regarding the nuclear power plant next year. Now, negotiations and discussions are underway with South Korean, Russian, American, and several other companies. According to Vardanyan, the final decision depends on several factors.
The Lithuanian deputy foreign minister was also interested in the possibility of Armenia joining the program of exporting “green electricity” from the South Caucasus to the European Union via a cable under the Black Sea.
Hakob Vardanyan emphasized that the project is central to Armenia’s attention. Since there is cooperation with Georgia in the field of electricity now, there is a great desire to join the project and cooperate with EU member states, especially since Armenia has excellent potential in electricity export.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania invited RA Deputy Minister of TCE Vardanyan and RA TCE Minister Gnel Sanosyan to Vilnius to discuss the issues of bilateral interest with the minister of the relevant field in more detail.
The deputy minister of TKE also thanked for the invitation, emphasizing that the possibility of such a visit will be considered depending on the upcoming agenda.
