At the conference held in Munich, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called to speed up aid to Ukraine as time was running out. Borrell also spoke about the role of the EU in the Middle East and called the situation in the West Bank “explosive.”
“We have many strategies but few actions,” Borell said and announced that the situation in Ukraine, on the battlefield, could be resolved in 3 months.
He called for a new level of support for the warring country.
“We fluctuated in supply too much, too often. Two years ago, we were ready to send helmets. Now, we are transferring F-16, but two years have passed. If we had made this decision faster, maybe the situation at the front would have been different,” Borell said.
The head of European diplomacy also said that the EU “cannot play a geopolitical role until it is ready to defend itself,” noting that the most important geopolitical challenges facing a united Europe today relate to Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, and the Global South, as well as its own defense.
Borrell also spoke about the war in the Middle East, lamenting the lack of unity and the fact that many EU member states “want to play their own game” in the region, but there must be a “clear future” for the Palestinian people.
