“Armenia, as a sovereign state, should not allow someone, sitting on foreign shores, to curse Armenia, the Armenian people, and the leadership of Armenia with the last words, regardless of whether we like that leadership or not,” stated Tigran Hakobyan, the president of the RAU, addressing the issue of Russian TV channels at the meeting with journalists.
In addition, according to him, there was a violation of the law: one of the programs contained calls for violence and threats. We are talking about the decision of the RAU to suspend the broadcasting of the “Sputnik” radio station for 30 days. “In the decision, we decided not to be too extensive because it caused discomfort, and seeing this continuously during several programs, we initiated administrative proceedings, and there was no other punishment than to suspend the programs of “Sputnik” radio for 30 days.”
Hakobyan noted that the editorial staff of “Sputnik” condemned the violation of the law during that program. After that decision, the program was closed. “They also expressed regret for the word product; they said it does not correspond to their editorial policy. They laid the groundwork for us to restore “Sputnik” programs and the right to rebroadcast “Tospa” after 30 days.”
Hakobyan said that “Tospa” assessed their decision as inconsistent with what happened and turned it in the court.
