Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan referred to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statements about adopting a new constitution. He said the government talked about constitutional changes shortly after the 2018 revolution.
“In my understanding, this is a document which, in addition to fixing concrete legal relations and establishing mechanisms, is first of all a philosophical foundation (they don’t say “mother law” for nothing) by which legal relations within society are built, citizen-citizen, citizen-state, etc.
This is, first of all, a document of internal significance. I do not want to deny entirely that, while having domestic significance, it, like any constitution, has a broader effect; that is, it refers to foreign relations. Our constitution is not an exception to this.
The fact that the process of regulating Armenia-Azerbaijan relations is the reason for changing the constitution is a significant exaggeration, with which I’m afraid I have to disagree,” said Mirzoyan.
The minister answered whether the current constitution inhibits the peace process. “Not at all.”
