On January 15, RA Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan received the delegation led by Richard Nephew, global anti-corruption coordinator of the US State Department. The Minister of Internal Affairs, welcoming the guests, highly appreciated the long-standing, strong and effective friendly cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America, which is based on the common values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Vahe Ghazaryan presented the progress of reforms in the ministry and subordinate services and expressed special thanks to the US government for its contribution to the creation of the new patrol service, logistical support, and support in organizing the training process of patrol officers during this important period of reforms.
The Minister of Internal Affairs confirmed the willingness to successfully complete the reforms, which will enable to have a specialized and technically equipped, well-behaved and respectable police force that can face modern challenges, as well as ensure the proper functioning of the newly created Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Richard Nephew, thanking for the warm reception, expressed readiness to support the ministry. He highly appreciated the close cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the US Embassy and presented the purpose of the visit.
The activities carried out by the internal security and anti-corruption department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were presented to the global anti-corruption coordinator of the US State Department in the direction of revealing corruption manifestations in the subordinate services of the Ministry, as well as their prevention. The guests were also presented with the results of surveys conducted by international organizations, in the list of which Armenia and Yerevan are in the leading positions of the safest countries and cities.
Richard Nefew highly appreciated the ongoing reforms, relying also on the results of surveys of international organizations. The meeting also discussed future cooperation within the fight against corruption, training of employees in that direction and other issues of mutual interest.
