US Assistant Secretary of State James O’Bryan spoke about Armenia and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
O’Brien, in particular, said: “Prime Minister Pashinyan has been very brave; he has made it clear that he wants Armenia to move forward in terms of opening borders and improving relations with the West; he does not wish for Armenia to be entirely dependent on Russia. The way previous leaders sought it. He has instituted several reforms that should be very encouraging to the citizens of Armenia as they look to continue the rapid economic growth they have enjoyed over the past year or two.
Prime Minister Pashinyan has also raised a bold voice for a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, allowing Armenia to focus on its economic development, build security relations, and expand trade from Central Asia to Turkey. We would love to see all of this. So, any package supporting Armenia is welcome. How the EU chooses to get there will be up to them. But we are committed to working with our European partners and the Armenian government to ensure that the people of Armenia can benefit from the reform policies undertaken by the Pashinyan government.”
