On October 19, the delegation headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonite, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial, accompanied by the RA Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan, RA Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, and Lithuania’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the RA Andrius Pulokas.
Edita Gzoyan, acting director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, welcomed the guests. He accompanied the students to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, presenting the history of the creation of the memorial. The deputy director of HCTI also referred to the three khachkars placed in the memory of the Armenians who died in the massacres organized by the Azerbaijani government in the cities of Sumgait, Kirovabad (Gandzak), Baku in the last century in the territory of Tsitsernakaberd, and the stories of the five freedom fighters buried in front of Hushapat during the Artsakh struggle, emphasizing the connection between what happened and the Armenian Genocide. : Edita Gzoyan also referred to the historical and legal aspects of the Artsakh issue and presented Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian actions and propaganda.
Mrs. Ingrida Šimonytė laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, after which the guests placed flowers near the eternal fire and observed a minute of silence in memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The guests also toured the Armenian Genocide Museum. They got acquainted with the permanent and temporary exhibitions, after which the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė, made a note in the memorial book of Honorary Guests.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Acting Director of HCTI, Edita Gzoyan, presented books about the Armenian Genocide to the honored guest.
At the end of the visit, Mrs. Ingrida Šimonytėe planted a silver fir tree in Remembrance Park.
