Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan continues to have meetings with international partners, presenting issues related to protecting the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Today, on October 5, the Defender received the delegation led by Mohan Ramesh Rajasingam, head and representative of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in Geneva. The panel included Natia Natsileishvili, acting UN Permanent Coordinator in Armenia, and Denis Besedich, head of the UN Permanent Coordinator’s Office.
Anahit Manasyan presented the state of protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, presenting the apparent violations of international law and international humanitarian law in individual cases.
The Defender referred to the results of the fact-finding work carried out by him and his staff in the centers that assess primary needs in Kornidzor and also in Goris and Vaik, aimed at protecting the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Defender also presented the results of the monitoring of Azerbaijani public sources and social media publications by the staff of the RA human rights defender, noting that there are a large number of posts by social network users targeting the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh based on ethnic origin, propagating and justifying hatred and violence. In this context, the Defender noted that such an intolerant attitude of the Azerbaijani society is the consequence and proof of the anti-Armenian policy of the Azerbaijani authorities.
The parties exchanged ideas on addressing the humanitarian and legal problems of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, reaffirming the importance of human rights being paramount in all situations and any corner of the world.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to expand cooperation on issues related to the protection of human rights.
