On August 28, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon. The meeting took place within the framework of the Bled strategic conference in Slovenia.
During the meeting, the interlocutors reflected on issues of bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Slovenia and current programs, expressing readiness to activate the bilateral political dialogue further.
Referring to the damages suffered by Slovenia due to the floods, the biggest natural disaster since independence, Minister Mirzoyan expressed Armenia’s solidarity with the people of Slovenia. He said he was ready to support them in overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster. He emphasized the importance of adequate response and steps against natural and artificial disasters.
Thoughts were exchanged on the RA-EU partnership and cooperation within the framework of international structures.
Regional security issues were also on the agenda of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Slovenia’s meeting.
Ararat Mirzoyan presented to his colleague the deepening humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan’s illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor and stressed that the policy of Azerbaijan to keep 120 thousand people under actual siege in the 21st century, which aims to cleanse the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians ethnically, is unacceptable.
Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the imperative to implement the legally binding decisions of the UN International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6 to remove the blockade of the Lachin Corridor immediately and to prevent the impending humanitarian disaster in Nagorno-Karabakh. The importance of clear messages and steps from international partners, including the EU and its member states, was emphasized.
