During a press conference with Ararat Mirzoyan, Belgian Foreign Minister Haja Lahbib stated that her country is concerned about the tension surrounding the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
“The only way to get out of this historic conflict is through negotiations and compromises, even if it is difficult. In 2023, in particular, the agreements within the framework of the meetings organized by Charles Michel are a positive step forward. The leaders of the two countries confirmed the territorial integrity of the countries, and I welcome the bold statements of your Prime Minister, who took the path of peace,” he noted.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, the last negotiations held in Brussels showed that the peace agreement is close, and the countries’ leaders must do everything to allow the Armenian and Azerbaijani residents to live in peace. “New consultations should take place in Brussels, as well as in Yerevan and Baku. We hope that they will reach a historical turning point.”
He said that Azerbaijan must ensure the safety of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh and unrestricted movement through the Lachin Corridor. “Belgium and the EU will continue to insist on and act in this direction in their diplomatic contacts. As you know, Belgium will take over the EU presidency on January 1, 2024. Armenia is an important partner for Europeans, and we want to strengthen our partnership in an unstable global situation.”
