Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the discussion of the UN Security Council regarding the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to him, the closure of the Lachin Corridor was emphasized at the highest international court. “The truth about the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the resulting humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh has been spoken at the highest international court. Also, the international community made a collective call to Azerbaijan to eliminate the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, “Of course, it may seem strange to the Armenian public that I am recording this as a result of the discussion in the Council of Ministers, but we should not forget that Azerbaijan constantly insists that the Lachin Corridor is not closed.”
Pashinyan noted that the international community’s call has yet to be implemented, and 22 trucks with around 400 tons of humanitarian cargo are waiting for the opportunity to enter Nagorno-Karabakh.
Until then, according to him, the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is getting worse daily. “On the one hand, Azerbaijan has blocked the entry of 100 tons of flour into Nagorno-Karabakh by the RA government; on the other hand, it does not allow the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to harvest their sown grain and get flour. This is another fact that supports the thesis put forward by international experts that Azerbaijan is subjecting the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to genocide through starvation, therefore, the opening of the Lachin Corridor should be considered a step aimed at preventing genocide. I think the international community should focus on this perception,” he said.
Pashinyan stressed that Armenia reaffirms its commitment to the peace agenda, calling on the official Baku to refrain from steps to nullify the possibility of establishing peace.
