Today, on July 14, human rights defender Anahit Manasyan participated in the event entitled “Making Armenia Stronger; Women, Peace, and Security in Armenia.”
In her speech, Anahit Manasyan referred to the steps taken in Armenia to protect and promote women’s rights. She emphasized the importance of overcoming various stereotypes for successfully implementing the process. In this context, the Defender noted that carrying out severe work in education is necessary because stereotypical thinking is formed from school years.
Anahit Manasyan also referred to women’s participation in various processes in regions. The defender noted that during her visits to regions, she holds various discussions with women, and the women’s council under HRD also plays an important role.
The defender also presented the works carried out to protect and promote the rights of women representing national minorities living in Armenia. she noted that soon a public council for national minorities under the Ministry of Human Rights will be established, as a result of which the possibilities of overcoming the mentioned problems will increase.
“I will personally work with the women of the ethnic minority communities,” she emphasized.
The defender also spoke about promoting women’s involvement in the decision-making process, emphasizing that women’s involvement is essential at the middle management and decision-making levels.
The “Making Armenia Stronger; Women, Peace and Security in Armenia” event is held within the framework of the program financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia. It is implemented by the NGO “Democracy Today.” It is dedicated to improving the implementation of the second national action plan of the UN Security Council Resolution N1325, “Women, Peace, and Security.” The two-day event is held on July 14-15.
