RA Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan announced that the RA government would submit the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to ratify the National Assembly shortly.
“Regarding the Rome Statute, last week the staff, having already answered the media’s questions, presented that it will be sent shortly; I think it will be a matter of weeks,” the minister said in a briefing with journalists.
Speaking about the media statements of Karen Andreasyan, president of the Central Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, regarding the pressure on judges, the minister said. “In my opinion, the media statements related to Karen Andreasyan are gossip, they don’t even have a good idea of the procedures related to the member of the Central Committee. It’s just that, in my deep conviction, the defense side is trying in every way to make some comments related to the obvious disciplinary case, but that is their defense strategy.
It is natural that offenders who have been prosecuted must be protected in some way. For example, if someone is accused of corruption, any official, past or present, says that this is political persecution, if a judge is caught in criminal activity, he should say that it is oppression. Everyone defends themselves in their own way. It’s normal, we’re in a democratic country, we listen to everyone’s opinion, but we don’t deviate from our agenda.”
