NA Speaker Alen Simonyan considers it unlikely that Azerbaijan will toughen its rhetoric in the negotiations after Erdogan visits Baku, “No, hardening is not due to that; it is due to our position, what we have to say, cooperation with our international partners. I have to give an example again about the conversation about the corridor; you see, the Armenian side showed its will and said until the end that nothing like this would happen; it seems that there was a perception that something like this was neither planned nor it was talked about, although some tried to bargain that Nikol Pashinyan promised something,” he said.
Simonyan assured that there could be no coercion on the Armenian side because the government is elected, “If it was not chosen, yes, there could be coercion. Today, Armenia is making great progress at the level of democracy. We indeed have mistakes, not everything is ideal, but the progress, the government’s will to solve and correct the existing problems is obvious, and this cannot remain unanswered,” he said.
According to Alen Simonyan, there is no problem with the issue of unblocking; there is a negotiation process where opinions try to reach joint ends, “I do not know. Suppose Azerbaijan wants the Russian side to control the entry. In that case, Armenia may also want the representation of a third country to control it because opening the borders and unblocking is a mutual process. Suppose an Azerbaijani must come to Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia. In that case, it means that a resident of Armenia can also go to Russia or any other country through the territory of Azerbaijan. The conditions should be the same,” he said, assuring that the Armenian side will decide the issues of control related to the territory of Armenia.
