“With which map the demarcation works should be carried out, there is still no final agreement.” Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced this during the discussions on implementing the budget in the National Assembly. According to him, there is a commitment to carry out these works ahead of the Alma Ata declaration. “It is about this that an agreement was reached in Prague on October 6 of last year. There is no agreement on which map. As far as I know, during the last discussion in Chisinau, the President of Azerbaijan did not object to the head of the Armed Forces of the USSR. We are talking about the map around which there is understanding and willingness to continue the work on the part of the entire international community and Armenia,” he elaborated.
According to the Minister, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR: 1975, it is acceptable for Armenia to recognize each other’s territorial integrity with maps and carry out demarcation works.
Mirzoyan advised Azerbaijanis, “The basis of distinction should not be such documents or maps beneficial to one side or the other, but as invulnerable as possible regarding the legal basis. If it is the 1975 map, then it is the 1975 map. In the opposite case, all sides have their ideas about their excellent maps, including taking into account the fact that current Azerbaijan considers itself the successor of Musavat Azerbaijan, which had completely different ideas about its borders, and we are not even talking about one or two villages here.”
Mirzoyan also said, “We have concerns that there is a deliberate attempt to tear off new territories from Armenia, in one case – small, in another – large. And we are interested in that borderline being fixed as clearly and as soon as possible.”
