RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed that demarcation and demarcation with Azerbaijan should be carried out based on the 1975 maps of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR. According to him, these are the maps the Russian Federation is discussing, “This, in our opinion, will mean ensuring stability in this situation,” he said.
Pashinyan noted with satisfaction that this issue has also been formulated by the international community, which is “important and welcome.”
He emphasized that he could not record any change in Azerbaijan’s position, “Ensuring border security is an important part of the negotiation process. There is no secret the fact that Azerbaijan continues to pursue a policy of military pressure, trying to obtain more favorable conditions during the negotiations. But, simultaneously, I must record that it violates an internationally accepted obligation.”
According to Pashinyan, the 1975 map can and should be the basis for further differentiation, “This is implied by the agreements reached in Prague on October 6, 2022, regarding demarcation based on the Alma Ata declaration.”
