In the British Museum of the United Kingdom, on May 4, “Glory and Power: The exhibition entitled “From Persia to Greece,” where exhibits from the History Museum of Armenia and the “Erebun” historical-archeological reserve-museum are displayed.
The exhibition is about the splendor of the Achaemenid Empire from the 6th to the 1st century AD to the Hellenistic times, the symbols of power, their transformations, and their political and historical-cultural significance. The gold breastplate found in Armavir, the clay bull-shaped ritual vessel (VI-V century BC), the silver horseman ritual vessel found in Erebuni (VI-IV century BC), the clay bear-shaped ritual vessel found in Artashat (BC . I c.) are shown for the first time in the United Kingdom and have become a real discovery for the specialists of the British Museum.
Varuzhan Nersisyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Davit Poghosyan, Director of the History Museum of Armenia, were present at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
Other high-ranking officials, ambassadors, and figures of science and culture were also present at the solemn ceremony, for whom a particular explanation was given by James Fraser, director of the Middle East Department of the British Museum, curator of the exhibition. He noted that during the closed viewings organized for a particular group of visitors, the bear-shaped ritual vessel provided by the History Museum of Armenia, which is combined in one showcase with another high-value exhibit kept in the British Museum at the same time, the bust of the goddess Anahit, received special attention.
In the opening speech, the director of the British Museum, Hartwig Fisher, thanked the History Museum of Armenia and the “Erebun” Historical and Archaeological Reserve Museum for practical cooperation.
The exhibition’s opening was preceded by a separate meeting of the director of the History Museum of Armenia with the directors of the British Museum and the Department of the Middle East.
The meeting was organized in the presence of Varuzhan Nersisyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. During the meeting, the possibilities of further cooperation were discussed, and preliminary agreements were reached in the direction of future professional, scientific, and cultural cooperation.
The exhibition will be open until August 13.
