“We understand the importance of relations with Azerbaijan for Russia, especially now. Here there are chain factors that make these relations necessary in the direction of Iran, the North-South idea, which was raised by Putin months ago, and here Azerbaijan is one of the essential links. This is just one factor. The other is related to Turkey, and the situation here is obvious. Azerbaijan’s dependence on Russia is less than Russia’s dependence on Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is taking advantage of this situation. A key role is also played here because Azerbaijan has almost equal importance for the West considering these circumstances and the geopolitical situation. Azerbaijan is seen here as a critical player capable of creating problems for Russia. There is a situation not only in Russia but also in Iran. Aliyev is trying to use this situation, selling his issues as expensive as possible to Russia and the West.”
