The World Health Organization stated in the bulletin published Thursday night that the risk of cholera spreading worldwide is exceptionally high.
According to WHO, as of March 20, 24 countries continued to receive information about new disease cases, “Since February 11, 2023, when the previous report on cholera in the world was published, the global situation has worsened. Four new countries have reported disease outbreaks, bringing the total to 24 as of March 20. In the current situation, the World Health Organization assesses the risk at the global level as extremely high,” says the WHO.
TASS reports that since the beginning of 2023, cholera outbreaks have expanded in South-Eastern Africa. Experts are particularly concerned about the possible worsening of the situation in Malawi and Mozambique in March. New episodes were recorded at the beginning of the year in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, AAU, and the Horn of Africa region.
