Artur Tovmasyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh, stated in a conversation with Artsakhpress that the issue of the rights and security of the people of Artsakh is one of their key goals. “It is essential that RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan very clearly emphasized this during yesterday’s press conference,” Tovmasyan said, adding, “These two goals are united in the main goal of our people, the realization of the right to self-determination and its full recognition.”
Tovmasyan states, “We understand very well that we are living in difficult times, and the processes taking place in our region can, at any time, lead to new military aggressions and unpredictable consequences. But to avoid them, we cannot ignore our vital interests. In that sense, the opinion of the RA Prime Minister that the current authorities of the Republic of Armenia are not going to give Azerbaijan a mandate to carry out ethnic cleansing or genocide against Artsakh in the negotiations on a peace treaty with official Baku was also critical.’
He stressed that the international community should also take an apparent and firm position.
Referring to the information spread by the Azerbaijani president’s office a few days ago that the representatives of the Artsakh authorities are invited to the Baku dialogue, Tovmasyan noted that the Artsakh authorities have never avoided contact with the Azerbaijani authorities.
“The issue is that the agenda proposed by Baku is unacceptable to us. Unfortunately, despite the agreements, the previous contacts did not provide any results regarding the issues on the agenda. Moreover, after them, the Azerbaijani armed forces carried out a terrorist operation in Artsakh on March 5. As a result, three policemen were killed, and one policeman was injured.
