The Syunik region Governor Robert Ghukasyan today met the French delegation that arrived in Goris, which is in Armenia under the leadership of former French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. The board also includes ex-minister Nathalie Loizeau, the widow of prominent French-Armenian politician Patrick Devegyan, Sophie Devegyan, and two members of the parliament.
The guests first visited the French-Armenian Cardiovascular Center of Goris and then spoke with Robert Ghukasyan. Eduard Philip noted that it was his first time in Armenia. Still, he wanted to meet in the capital and visit Syunik, “We aim to see and understand the situation here with our own eyes and reaffirm our solidarity with the Armenian people.”
The governor of Syunik thanked the delegation for visiting the region, noting that Syunik needs such vital guests in this challenging period. Robert Ghukasyan answered the questions of interest to the French side, which were related to the accommodation created in the region, security, and other issues. The memorandum to be signed between Syunik and the Auvergne Rhône Alpe province of France was also highlighted during the conversation.
The members of the French delegation also met in Goris with the people of Artsakh who temporarily took refuge here due to the closure of the Armenia-Artsakh road, as well as the displaced people of Artsakh as a result of the last war, listened to their stories and raised problems, promising to continue their efforts after returning to France to achieve the opening of the Berdzor corridor.
