Arman Babajanyan, chairman of the “For the Republic” party, wrote on his Facebook page.
“Russia, which is weakening daily on the Ukrainian front and is in the tightening ring of international isolation, continues to make irregular movements.
Yesterday, the threatening statements made by the Speaker of the State Duma of Russia Volodin in the presence of the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan proved that Moscow is irreconcilable and does not accept the obvious fact that due to the active and vital participation of Russia, due to its non-allied behavior with Armenia, a situation has matured where Armenia is obliged to try to ensure the Armenian interest in case of possible inevitable transformation, thus striving to keep up with Baku in the European, transatlantic work for the case/s when the Russian mediation appears in a complete crisis, experiencing a final fiasco.
Moscow has always been comfortable with Armenian-Russian vassal relations. Now, naturally, Moscow cannot forgive Yerevan because it is objectively trying to find additional mechanisms for the security and protection of the interests and rights of Armenia-Artsakh in the conditions of Moscow’s incompetence and ineffective mediation.
Moscow does not forgive Yerevan because it dared not only to continue its independent existence after the 44-day war but also after being rejected by its ally Russia and other CSTO partners for support during further tensions and aggression; it consistently took steps to protect Armenian interests from those countries, power centers and with organizations that reached out to the Armenian people.
Volodin should point his arrows not at official Yerevan but at Baku, which has gained greater importance due to Russian-Turkish strategic alliance relations and geopolitical realities and has opened the way for the European Union’s involvement in the process of settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Despite the adverse reaction of our political actors, Armenia considered Russia’s plan acceptable in terms of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement, where there was a record of leaving the issue of the status of Artsakh in an uncertain perspective. Azerbaijan was the one who publicly refused.
Azerbaijan rejected the Russian plan, which practically opened the way for EU involvement. As a result, it received a more suitable proposal, perhaps problematic for Yerevan, which, however, has a mechanism of specific guarantees.
Until now, Armenia has done everything to prevent the situation from leaving the status quo confirmed by the November 9 statement because no matter how much we consider that statement unacceptable for us, it is still in the tripartite documents that Baku has a signature recognizing the existence of Nagorno Karabakh.
Moscow knows very well that the problem of maintaining the Russian tripartite format is not Armenia’s.
Armenia does not have such an ability because it is a problem beyond its capabilities. If Moscow cannot solve this problem, then Yerevan has no way to provide a solution there.
Baku, holding Russia by the nose, takes advantage of the fact that the problems of the Ukrainian war have increased the importance of Turkey and Azerbaijan for Russia and the West.
The West is also trying to fill the security holes created by a weakening Russia in the South Caucasus, and is ready to encourage any action by Baku to take the situation out of Russia’s control.”
