The prestigious international anti-corruption organization “Amnesty International” appealed to Azerbaijan and Russian peacekeepers, calling on them to unblock the Lachin corridor. In particular, it is said in the statement: “The ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor puts the lives of thousands of people in the breakaway region of Nagorno Karabakh at risk.” The human rights organization called on the authorities of Azerbaijan and the Russian peacekeepers to immediately unblock the route and end the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
“The blockade has led to severe shortages of food and medical supplies, as humanitarian aid provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeepers is insufficient to meet the demand. Disruptions in the supply of electricity, natural gas, and transportation fuel cause extreme hardship, especially for groups vulnerable to discrimination and marginalization. This must end now. The authorities of Azerbaijan have internationally recognized sovereignty over these territories and exercise control over the territory from which the blockade is implemented. It is Azerbaijan’s responsibility to ensure that the population of Nagorno-Karabakh is not denied access to food and other essential goods and medicines. In turn, the Russian peacekeeping mission is tasked with ensuring the security of the Lachin Corridor. However, both sides do not fulfill their obligations,” the statement said.
