On May 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke by telephone with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi.
Following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Araghchi in St. Petersburg on April 27, the parties continued a detailed exchange of views on the prospects for a complete cessation of hostilities, stabilization of the military-political situation in the Middle East, including ensuring freedom of navigation, and a settlement over the Iranian nuclear program.
Russia’s support for mediation efforts was emphasized. The readiness to fully promote the political and diplomatic process with a view to reaching sustainable agreements for the establishment of lasting peace in the region was confirmed. Special attention was paid to the passage of Russian ships and cargo through the Strait of Hormuz.
