US Vice President Kamala Harris is two percentage points ahead of Republican Donald Trump after Joe Biden decided to end his campaign. The Reuters/Ipsos poll presents these data.
Harris led Trump in the national poll 44% to 42%, a margin of statistical error of 3 percentage points. In a previous Reuters/Ipsos poll on July 15-16, Harris and Trump each had 44 percent support, and earlier in the month the Republican had a one percentage point lead over the US vice president. In addition, in a recent poll, 56% of registered US voters said Harris, 59, “has a sharp mind and is able to overcome challenges.” Only 49 percent said something similar about 78-year-old Trump, and only 22 percent about 81-year-old Biden.
The survey took place on July 22-23, after the US Republican National Convention, where Trump was officially nominated as the presidential candidate, and after Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the race and supporting the candidacy of Harris.
