In the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process the RF wants to assume the role of mediator. It is known that Russia is a member of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, so it is for the peaceful settlement of the NK issue, without any military action. This is why the RF is against the change of the NK status. This was stated today by the scientific director of German-Russian forum, international expert Alexander Raar in the conversation with “First News and Analyses”, addressing the issue of Stepanakert airport’s reopening.
“Russian Federation is in favor of the current status quo and the continuation of the negotiations,” clarified Alexander Raar.
In particular, speaking of Stepanakert airport to be exploited, he said that it may not be an international airport, because no international flights are carried out there.
“That is why I do not see any reason to say, that the airport will be operating. I do not think so it will be possible to resolve this issue soon, even for the benefit of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. Today it is quite difficult to implement because of political reasons, as the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh status is not yet resolved.” commented the international expert.
