Georgian media reports that Georgian ex-president Eduard Shevardnadze gave an interview to Georgian newspaper “Asaval Dasavali” and commented on the events which happened last week in Georgia.
According to Shevardnadze the arrests of senior officials and military officers, were done under the law.
Shevardnadze stressed that the old power of the country is now in a ridiculous situation since “they even dare to say that Bacho Akhalaia, the” patriot “, was arrested for cleaning apple:
“ Our nation knows which official has committed a crime against our country. ” said Shevarnadze adding “However, I should recall the events of 7 November 2007 since on that day the authorities issued a verdict for themselves. The power, which added such a shameful fact in our country’s history, could not have another future. I don’t want to talk about Saakashvili at all, but I must stress that it is clear that without his order there wouldn’t have been any November 7. Georgian people will pass a sentence on me and other political figures, but believe me it will be easier for me than for Saakashvili. I want to apologize for my wrong steps, and Georgian nation must forgive me. ” said Shevarnadze.
