Georgian media reports that country’s PM, Bidzina Ivanishvili, speaking at a joint press conference after a meeting with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels, said that Russia’s response to the decision to appoint a special representative was not adequate.
Note, Russian Foreign Ministry said on November 3, two days after the new prime minister appointed a former Georgian ambassador to Russia Zurab Abashidze as his special representative, that Moscow now expects “concrete and practical steps” from Tbilisi.
On the part of the new government very concrete step was made when I appointed a special representative, Zurab Abashidze, for relations with Russia, and we got a first disappointment by their (the Russian authorities) statement. So far there was no adequate reaction from Russia. We are still waiting, and we hope that the Russian authorities will do further analysis and will take the appropriate step. Escalation, which exists between the two countries is not desirable for any country, and we should both try and somehow improve and develop our historical relations”, – said Ivanishvili.
