Today the CEC announced the results of the full preliminary data for the parliamentary elections, held on October. According to it, in 39 out of 73 single-mandate majoritarian constituencies won “Georgian Dream” coalition, and in 34 – candidates of “United National Movement” party. Number of majoritarian MPs from both electoral subjects can still change after summing up the total of the final outcomes; they must be declared no later than 19 days after the election.
The CEC did not say how many deputies are by the proportional lists from “Georgian Dream” and UNM. Thus, according to full preliminary data, in the new parliament “Georgian Dream” coalition will receive majority of seats – 82 or 83 mandates, and UNM – 67 or 68.
Experts and political analysts say that despite winning the election, “Georgian Dream” has not received qualified majority in the parliament. The coalition will have a simple majority, which will help to form the government and make decisions on many current issues, but also for effective work of the parliament and the government it is important to search for compromise with the minority.
For the first time there is a situation when the president represents the opposition party in Georgia, and it is hard to say how president-oppositionist and the government of the ruling party will co-exist and work effectively.
