“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved in the near future” said First Deputy General Director of ITAR-TASS Mikhail Gusman today.
He noted that Azerbaijan is attaining the fulfillment of the decisions for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which were adopted by the UN.
“It is very important that there is still time to resolve this issue peacefully. First of all, it is necessary to solve the problem of Azerbaijan’s occupied territories,” he said.
Mr. Gusman added that as Azerbaijan has the largest number of refugees in the world, it isn’t possible to bear this for a long time.
Recall that the conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan, occupying 20 per cent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994, but Armenia has not yet carried out the U.N. Security Council’s four resolutions on the emancipation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
