US President Donald Trump will pay an official visit to Beijing on May 13-15 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This is the first visit by an American leader to China since 2017. Former President Joe Biden never visited the country during his term.
The Middle East issue will be one of the main issues on the agenda, given the growing tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran (this is why the visit was postponed since March).
The parties will discuss the technological restrictions imposed by Washington and Beijing’s retaliatory steps regarding the supply of rare earth metals.
The issue of Taiwan and major US arms sales to regional partners is also on the agenda. The visit is seen as an important attempt to restore dialogue between the superpowers amid a difficult geopolitical situation.
